Smart Clearance: turn overstock into cash, not chaos.

Automatic markdowns for slow-moving inventory. Set a target sell-out window (30-90 days), and Rebly applies gradual price reductions while protecting your margins. No more panic sales.

The problem with clearance sales

Smart Clearance solves this by automating gradual markdowns. Instead of waiting until desperation kicks in, you set a target timeline and let Rebly manage the discounting—always within your guardrails.

How Smart Clearance works

1

Rebly calculates days-of-stock

Using your order history, Rebly calculates sales velocity (units/day) for each variant. Combined with current inventory, this gives days-of-stock—how long until you sell out at the current rate.

days_of_stock = inventory / sales_velocity
Example: 120 units / 1 unit per day = 120 days
2

You set the target sell-out window

Choose when you want the inventory cleared: 30, 45, 60, or 90 days. Shorter windows mean more aggressive discounting (within your limits).

3

Weekly markdown steps based on mode

If days-of-stock is above your target, Rebly applies a markdown. The step size depends on your chosen mode:

Mode Step Max Total Frequency
Conservative 5% 20% 1x/week
Normal 10% 30% 1x/week
Aggressive 15% 40% 2x/week
4

Margin floor is always respected

Before applying any discount, Rebly checks if the new price would breach your margin floor (cost + minimum margin %). If it would, the discount is capped or skipped entirely. You'll see an alert in your dashboard.

Guardrails that protect your margins

You stay in control. Every playbook runs within the limits you define.

Margin floor

Set your minimum margin (cost + X%) and Rebly will never price below it. Even if the target isn't hit, your profits are protected.

Maximum total discount

Cap the total discount per playbook (e.g., 20%, 30%, 40% depending on mode). Prevents runaway markdowns.

Frequency cap

Control how often prices can change. Conservative mode: 1x/week. Aggressive mode: 2x/week. No daily price flickering.

Suggest-only option

Want to review every change before it goes live? Enable suggest-only mode and approve changes manually.

Full control and transparency

Suggest-only mode: Don't want automatic changes? Enable suggest-only mode and review every price change before it goes live. Approve or reject with one click.

Activity log with reasoning: Every price change is logged with the logic behind it. You'll see exactly why Rebly made a decision: "days-of-stock 120d > target 45d, 10% step within max discount & margin fence."

Pause and rollback: Pause a playbook anytime—prices stay where they are. If you cancel, choose whether to keep current prices or rollback to the original prices captured when the playbook started.

Example: Winter coat clearance

Before Smart Clearance

  • • 120 days-of-stock on winter coats
  • • Sitting on $24,000 in inventory
  • • Spring collection arriving in 8 weeks
  • • Options: panic 40% sale or hope for late cold snap

After 4 weeks with Smart Clearance

  • • Days-of-stock: 120 → 38 days
  • • 65 units cleared
  • • Average discount: 18%
  • • $0 priced below margin floor
  • • Cash freed for spring inventory

This is a representative example. Results vary based on product, pricing, and market conditions.

Frequently asked questions

Will this discount my bestsellers?

No. Smart Clearance only targets products with days-of-stock above your target. If a product is selling well (low days-of-stock), it won't be touched. You can also exclude specific products or collections from the playbook.

Will you discount below my cost?

Never. You set a margin floor (e.g., cost + 20%) and Rebly will not price below it. If hitting the target would require going below your floor, the playbook stops discounting that variant and alerts you.

What if I only want suggestions, not automatic changes?

Enable "Suggest-only" mode when creating the playbook. Rebly will calculate price changes and show them in your dashboard, but won't apply them until you approve. You can batch-approve or reject changes weekly.

How does Rebly calculate days-of-stock?

Days-of-stock = current inventory / sales velocity. Sales velocity is calculated from your order history (7, 14, or 30 days depending on data availability). Only paid/fulfilled orders are counted—cancellations and refunds are excluded.

Can I pause or stop a playbook?

Yes. You can pause a playbook anytime. Prices stay where they are until you resume or cancel. When you cancel, you have the option to keep current prices or rollback to original prices.

What happens when inventory sells out?

The playbook automatically completes when all variants in scope reach their target days-of-stock (for 7 consecutive days) or sell out. You'll see a summary of units cleared, revenue generated, and average discount used.
